Kara Jones is a bereaved mum to
Dakota Jones, stillborn March 11, 1999 and to Mizuko Jones, miscarried August 10, 2010. She is a coordinator for the MISS Chapters and co-moderator of the Creation Station Board on the
MISS Foundation Forums. She holds a seat on the International Volunteers Advisory Committee and is consulting in creative capacity on infrastructure growth and development here at MISS International.
She is a graduate
of Carnegie Mellon University holding degrees in both Creative Writing
and Cultural Theory with a minor in Early Childhood Development.
She trained and worked for three years with Fred Rogers and Hedda
Sharapan at Family Communications, Inc., producers of Mister Rogers'
Neighborhood from 1992-95.
After Dakota's death in 1999, she and
her husband Hawk founded KotaPress to publish works about the uses
of art during grief & healing. It is through KotaPress that they
publish the book Mrs. Duck and The Woman and are working on the Mrs.
Duck Project. Thru their work at KotaPress, they publish a Loss Support Journal which has gained a world-wide
readership. They also started the zines "A Different Kind of
Parenting" and "KOTA: Knowing Ourselves Thru Art" where they explore, not only the grief & creativity, but the entire
scope of parenthood and how it is redefined after a child dies. In 2011, she and Hawk relocated to Sedona, AZ, and helped to co-found SedonaGriefRetreat.com with Dr. Joanne Cacciatore. In 2012, in cooperation with Cath Duncan of Remembering For Good, she is launching a Creative Grief Coaching Certification program offering a comprehensive experience for those wanting to specialize in grief & creativity outreach.
Kara
is also offering many workshops such as "Grief: Finding Our Way" and "The Hero's Journey" thru her Grief & Creativity work at MotherHenna.com.
