"Baby's Breath" Campaign Launch
Healthy Babies 2000 Program

M.I.S.S. announces the launching of it's newest program to enhance the health of babies, to reduce infant mortality rates, and to decrease the incidence of S.A.D.S. and premature birth. S.A.D.S. or Sudden Antepartum Death is the unexplainable, sudden death of a healthy infant just prior to or during birth. S.A.D.S. takes the lives of nearly 15,000 babies per year in the U.S., according to Dr. Jason Collins, researcher at the Pregnancy Institute. Another 15, 000 babies are early stillbirths, occurring prior to the 28th week of pregnancy. More than 17,000 babies die within the first 28 days of life. Nearly 2,800 die of SIDS. Thousands more die from disease and illness.

This program is designed to create public awareness of early stillbirth, S.A.D.S., premature birth, congenital anomalies, sudden infant death, and overall 'healthy baby' concerns. This awareness needs to focus on education to new or expectant families and the medical and social service agencies that serve this population. However, there is another benefit to this program. It is also an awareness campaign designed to validate the significance of the lives of the children who have died from these causes; to create a better understanding of parental grief; to justify the immense loss when a child dies, regardless of the age of cause of death.

M.I.S.S. needs your help disseminating and publicizing this campaign. Look for the "Baby's Breath" ad in our next newsletter and go to work in your town promoting the program. The media is a great place to begin.

The united voices of bereaved families will speak for the children who are unable to speak for themselves. Let us take this time to remember, so that one day, we may all understand.
