Sleepers from Samantah

A Kindness Project Story Shared by LeeAnn Morlan, Mommy to Samantha

For our daughter, Samantha's first birthday in Heaven, we wanted to do something special to remember her. We thought long and hard. We decided we wanted to do something for the hospital where she was born and cared for at.

So, for one month before Samantha's birthday, we started collecting baby sleepers for Good Samaritan/Phoenix Children's Hospital. I was told by a social worker that upon time to go home from the hospital, many children have nothing to wear. Also, babies that stay in the I.C.U. Nursery, sometimes do not have clothes to wear during their stay. That did it for me. This is something I felt needed to be done. We sent E-mails and flyers to all of our friends, families, and co-workers, letting them know about this special cause. On Samantha's birthday, December 8th, 1999, we delivered 226 baby sleepers to the social workers of both Good Samaritan and Phoenix Children's Hospital. One social worker took off with a box of preemie sleepers right away, to deliver to the I.C.U. Nursery. This was definitely a good way to celebrate a special life that is not here with us anymore. I'm sure that Samantha was glad to see that others are benefiting from her short existence here on Earth. I have since learned that one family who had a child born still, had nothing to bury their precious child in. So, the nurses helped them to pick out one of these outfits for their child. That made the whole cause even more special to me. We attached the Kindness Cards on all the sleepers that were received. We also received sleepers from our friends at our support group, who also attached their precious babies' names to their Kindness Cards. Even though we wish we could still have our baby girl here with us, we know the memory of her will stay alive in our hearts, and in those that she has touched.
