Linda Amarkai Vanotoo, MD

Dr. Vanotoo is a seasoned Public Health Practitioner with over 30 years experience in health system management and a strong passion for maternal and newborn care.

Dr. Vanotoo has gone through extensive training in Ghana and abroad, including the United States of America in different aspects of health care. In addition to her numerous medical training, Dr. Vanotoo also holds a Degree in Executive Masters in Business Administration and she is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians.  

Dr. Vanotoo has done extensive work on stillbirth and presented papers at International Conferences including “Communities perceptions and practices about stillbirth” which she presented in Australia and “Challenges of tracking stillbirth” which won the best poster award at the first Fetal Growth Conference held in Birmingham in 2012. She was instrumental in the development of perinatal death audit tool in Ghana and has been tracking stillbirths with the view to help identify some of the avoidable causes of these unfortunate deaths that cause a lot of grief and pain.

Dr. Vanotoo is the founder of the “Promote Maternal & Infant Survival Excellence (PROMISE) Initiative” a Non Governmental Organization in Ghana which advocates excellence in maternal and child health and provides information to support individuals and families to make informed decisions about their health. She established the “Hope Restoration Centre”, the first to be established in Ghana to support families through their grieving period and offer psychosocial support for families with adverse pregnancy outcomes including stillbirths. Dr. Vanotoo has also developed “The Real Total Man” to provide male specific health care and promote gender equality.

She is the author of the book “Pregnancy School: communicating with pregnant women and their families”. This book has contributed significantly to improved quality in the care pregnant women receive during antenatal visits. The pregnancy school has led to increased skilled delivery as well as improved customer care.

She is a trained and Certified Compassionate Bereavement Care provider trained by the MISS Foundation.
