Dorcas Guest Nelson

Dorcas is a graduate of NAU’s nursing school, summa cum laude, and currently works as a school nurse for the Scottsdale School District in Arizona.  During the past few years she has worked as a crisis detox nurse with Community Bridges to assist those in need of drug and alcohol addiction and currently works as a Bio-behavioral nurse with Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

She wasn’t always a nurse. After a decade in the financial planning industry as a Registered Representative working for Charles Schwab, RBC Dain Rauscher, and UBS Financial, Dorcas walked away from the field of stocks and bonds and decided to become a stay-at-home mom.  During this time, she could not deny her passion for working with children so she volunteered as a youth group leader, a Girl Scout leader, a playground duty volunteer in her children’s schools, as well as the president of the PTA.  Because of her warmth and wisdom, children often confided in her about their lives and their troubles.  It was this insight that pushed her to return to school and enter nursing school.

Now, Dorcas is working on a Masters in Counseling, with an emphasis in Children and Adolescence at Grand Canyon University.  She continues to have an open door policy and an advocate for the adolescents who come her way.
