JoAnn is a member of The Compassionate Crisis Support Team. A joint program of the MISS Foundation and the Charlotte Helen Bacon Foundation. The CHB Foundation was established by JoAnn and her husband, Joel, in memory of their daughter, Charlotte Bacon, who was murdered in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012.
The mission of the CCST is to provide immediate and compassionate aid to families experiencing multiple traumas or mass catastrophe from natural disaster, accidental death, or violence that results in traumatic deaths. Our services help to minimize the long-term negative effects of trauma on individuals and families and provide a private and safe place for them to receive crisis counseling and advocacy services during their most vulnerable times. We also connect families to postvention services in their own communities. Our focus is on those directly affected by the death of a core family member and the unique and individual needs of each bereaved family.
